Hyaluronic Acid

Nature's Moisturizer

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan in the body with a high affinity for water that’s distributed in connective tissues throughout the body.* Hyaluronic Acid’s viscosity is thousands of times that of water therefore one of its primary functions is to bind water to tissues and lubricate parts of the body that move frequently like joints and eyes.* Hyaluronic Acid has multiple roles in the human metabolism including a role in cellular function, lubrication, tissue hydration, serving as the backbone for the assembly of other glycosaminoglycans and a scavenging, anti-oxidant.*

Approximately 7-15 grams of Hyaluronic Acid is found in the average adult's body with about thirty percent turned over each day. Health-enhancing Hyaluronic Acid keeps collagen and elastin hydrated by locking moisture into the extracellular matrix.* Fifty percent of the Hyaluronic Acid in the body is located in the deep dermal and surface epidermal layers of the skin.*

Cells that are avascular like those found in cartilage, use hyaluronic acid as a vehicle to deliver nutrients in and transport waste out.* An age-related decline in Hyaluronic Acid synthesis in the body may contribute to brittle, deteriorating joints.* In the joints, Hyaluronic Acid supports extracellular matrix hydration to help maintain the health of joint-cushioning cartilage.* Hyaluronic Acid is a key component of the joint’s synovial fluid in the joints and an age-related decline in Hyaluronic Acid synthesis may be one of the contributing factors to joint deterioration.*

Hyaluronic Acid is found in high concentrations in the skin, vitreous humor (eyes), synovial fluid (joints), neural tissues, lips, bones, cartilages, ligaments, tendons, scalp tissue, hair follicles, intervertebral discs of the spine (intervertebral fibrocartilage), heart and fluids of the middle and inner ear.*
